Johnsonville Lions Club

>

Lions club members come from all walks of life and since 1987 Lionism has welcomed women into its ranks. We are not just business people or a business oriented group, our aim is to use the skills and abilities of all who are interested in serving their community in any way, to work as a successful team to advance our goals.

Our club constitution requires that we pay annual dues for the cost of operating our club, all moneys collected for service projects are kept in a special account and may only be used for authorized community service and charitable programs and projects.

This information is taken from a copy of the original CHARTER ROSTER in the record files of Lions Clubs International in Oak Brook, Illinois. Originally the club met the first and third Tuesday each month at 8.00 p.m. in the Town Hall.

Since then the club has met in various locations and changed to meeting at lunch-time on Wednesdays as a convenient arrangement to avoid clashing with all the evening activities which occur in our communities. This also allows us to welcome as members, some people who do not live in Johnsonville but earn their living here and wish to be an active part of our community.

The Lions Club now meets at "The Hop" Diner, Hemingway usually on the second and fourth Wednesdays each month. The first meeting each month is normally the business meeting during which items of club business, fund raising projects and Lions events are dealt with. At our second meeting we have a speaker or other program related to Lions or community interest. The meeting dates and arrangements are sometimes varied to suit special Lions activities or public holiday’s etc. At our regular meetings we have buffet lunch as our members arrive, start our meeting around twenty minutes past twelve and close at one o’clock so members can return to their work or business

Visitors are always welcome at our meetings and if you would like to learn more about Lions and our activities please feel free to come along to any meeting or make contact with any of the Lions who are listed in our membership roster.

We are your friends, neighbors and relatives from the Johnsonville - Hemingway community and the surrounding area who have one common interest. We have widely differing backgrounds, interests and aspirations but we all share a desire to serve our community by pooling our skills to achieve more as a team than we can by our individual efforts. We enjoy our friendship and fellowship together as we work towards the various goals and objectives we have set for our club in service to those in need. The Lions motto is 'We Serve' and we take special pride in the work we do in this community, our District, our State and the world wide activities of Lions International with special emphasis on all aspects of sight conservation.

If you have any interest in community service why not visit with us and see if Lions can offer you an opportunity to join in worthwhile projects?
