April issue

We held our annual Spouses Night last month and had an interesting evening. We enjoyed the presence of our two Peace Poster winners and gave them their certificates and prizes.

This month we have had two regular meetings and reasonable attendance but would ask that all members make concerted effort to attend more regularly. One project we have been trying to start – club visitation – has failed to get going because we can never get the Lions who want to participate to agree on suitable dates and locations. If we had more regular attendees we could overcome this.

At the last meeting we had two lady speakers from the Pee Dee Coalition on Spousal and Sex Abuse who gave us a very interesting explanation of the way these problems develop and the problems of coping with the consequences. All the members present were very interested in this presentation and felt we had all learned some very important aspects of a problem in all our communities.

At our first meeting we formally elected the club officers for the 2004 – 2005 Lions year starting July 1st. The Lions names are as follows:
President – Bill Miles
1st Vice President – Randy Smiley
2nd Vice President – Jeff Tanner
3rd Vice President – Alan Wall
Secretary – Ian Smith
Treasurer – Diane Williams
Board member 2nd year – Romie Askins
“ - Ruth Smith
Board member 1st year – Michael Williams
“ - Darren Timmons
Tail Twister – Charlie Maxwell
Lion Tamer – Willie Grate
Membership Chair – Michael Williams

The various committee chairs are appointed by the Board and will be announced later.

Lions Ruth and Ian Smith attended the Multiple District Convention at Myrtle Beach over the April 23 – 25 weekend. It was an interesting event and certain significant matters need to be communicated to all members. A separate report is being prepared and will be given to the club at our May 26 meeting. The delay is because we have a special speaker at our May 12 meeting – Jason Purvis – the new City Administrator for Johnsonville.
